xkcd: Workaround

I once worked on a friend’s dad’s computer. He had the hard drive divided into eight partitions, C: through H:, with a ‘Documents’ directory tree on each one. Each new file appeared to be saved to a partition at random. I knew enough not to ask.

Handy exam trick: when you know the answer but not the correct derivation, derive blindly forward from the givens and backward from the answer, and join the chains once the equations start looking similar. Sometimes the graders don’t notice the seam.
